This is the question that we asked when we met Sakari. How could such a sweet little girl be returned to the shelter three times? Her story like many others is one of misunderstanding. The people who adopted Sakari the three previous times were not out to do the wrong thing; in fact I am quite sure that their intentions were the best. Unfortunately even the best of intentions can make for sad consequences. Sakari came into our care, when her most recent adopter realized that things were not working out, and through the assistance of a caring ACO, was put in contact with Tundra Spirits. Sakari was a little apprehensive when she first entered our home and met Misty, (our resident Beagle and official Husky helper) but what would one expect from a little girl who had been through some many new homes recently, let alone the experience of a shelter. Through it all Sakari's sweet nature would shine through. Never a growl or show of aggression, perhaps not the most obedient at first, but giving it her best. It was this sweet and caring nature that just drew us in.
Oh well, we have fallen victim to the foster family curse. The pack has grown by another wet tongue greeting me a good morning at 5:00 AM daily, to say, "Hey its a BRAND NEW DAY!!"
When Sakari went for her first Vet visit, it was discovered that she would need some special attention. To us, this just meant that we would be able to show Sakari that her trust in us was well placed. Over the next few weeks Sakari really started to open herself to joining our little pack. Her sweet and gentle natured now included a certain kind of acceptance. This was her new home, and she was safe here and would not be sent away again.
