In 1983, the Hills company...created an ad that showed how you
could produce a blend of shoe soles, coal, and crankcases oil
that would meet AAFCO's minimum requirements..." Goldstein,
D.V.M. (API)

"USDA inspectors and their trimmers...cut the damaged and
diseased parts off the chickens and dropped them in garbage
cans...were sent to a pet food factory." Prevention Magazine

Commercial pet foods and some pet food ingredients, have
been implicated in a number of diseases in companion animals.
Allergic skin disease, obesity, food intolerance, inflammatory
bowel disease, chronic ear infections, cystitis (bladder
inflammation), bladder and kidney stones, certain heart
diseases, pancreatitis, feline hyperthyroidism, hip dysplasia,
canine mammary cancer, bloat, and diabetes all have nutritional
components -- that is, nutritional factors are suspected or
known to play a role in inducing or perpetuating these diseases.

"Since......1965, I've noticed a...deterioration in pet health."
Pitcairn,PH.D.

"The assault begins with those processed and packaged foods
that most of us give our pets." Goldstein, D.V.M.

"dead, dying, diseased and disabled animals are also included.
Along with the meat comes disease, antibiotics...pesticides,
calle tags and surgical needles...meats still in their plastic and
styrofoam wrappings...dead dogs and cats from the
veterinarians and animal shelters...including their flea collars...id
tags." Guiliano PH.D.

What most consumers don't know is that the pet food industry is
an extension of the human food and agriculture industries. Pet
food provides a market for slaughterhouse offal, grains
considered "unfit for human consumption," and similar waste
products to be turned into profit. This waste includes intestines,
udders, esophagi, and possibly diseased and cancerous animal
parts. (API)

Some veterinarians claim that feeding slaughterhouse wastes to
animals increases their risk of getting cancer and other
degenerative diseases. The cooking methods used by pet food
manufacturers ... do not necessarily destroy the hormones used
to fatten livestock or increase milk production, or drugs such as
antibiotics or the barbiturates used to euthanize animals.

"restaurant grease...major component of feed...held in fifty
gallon drums...kept outside for weeks...rendering companies
pick up and sell to pet food companies." (API)
